Involuntary Tithing

I don't remember where we were, I want to say Russia except that Americans didn't go to Russia in the early 80s. Let's say Bavaria.

There was a man with a trained bear doing tricks on the sidewalk. My parents gave me a coin to throw in the man's hat. I pretended to throw it in, but slyly pocketed it instead.

Later that day my parents discovered that I, a child too young to have his own money, still had the coin that was intended for the bear man.

That month's allowance went straight to God.
