Wasteful

When I lived in Europe in the mid 80s every family got 1 modest sized garbage bin which was emptied each week. If you generated too much garbage one week the rule of thumb was to put a bottle of beer under each extra garbage bag that wouldn't fit into the bin - a mini-bribe for the garbage man.

When they found out we were Americans they gave us a second bin.
