I have trouble believing that the beautiful vistas/villages along the Iranian border are any more scenic or cultural than those that can be found in North America, Europe, the South Pacific, or the stable areas of Africa.
I have trouble believing that any band of self proclaimed "seasoned travelers" would not have a decent grasp on fundamental orienteering skills.
Just because our ambassadors will try their best to bail US citizens out of trouble, doesn't mean we have free license to be stupid Americans and cock up international relations in the process.
